Dutch Shoe Marathon

The flagship fun event of the year before Sabot Nationals is definitely the Dutch Shoe. With a turnout of over 150+ boats, and a great 8+ mile run from SDYC to CorYC, the race requires the utmost endurance from the sailors while providing the best scenery and probably the coolest race course you can sail in a small boat. Team MBYC came out in full force, represented by 20+ sailors (including adults).

First to finish overall in the “B” fleet was Mariana Shand, with Marcus Hall close on her heels finishing 4th. Shane Tillson finished 3rd in the 80+ boat “C” fleet, and also happened to be MBYC’s first finisher overall placing 10th out of all ~160 boats. Just 2 places behind in the “C” fleet was Cole Tillson, placing 5th by having a good start and sailing fast through the crowded La Playa basin.

Sean Ross had a good start and hit some good shifts early in the race, earning him 9th in the “C” fleet. Sarah Ozaki was out ahead of the pack early, and avoided crowded mark roundings, placing 21st. Right behind in 22nd was Jacob Adler, who is certainly feeling the speed from his new boat. Finishing 29th in the “C” fleet was Ben Conroy, who had good positioning as the fleet passed the Aircraft Carriers alongside North Island Coronado.

Sophie Sipes placed 39th, she and her brother Max Sipes (45th) caught the majority of the fleet after the crowded start made it difficult to get around the first couple marks of the course. Kaden Miller placed 48th, with teammate Allie Shand right behind in 49th. Sailing with a great attitude and finishing the race was Kate Bossler, who also made it through the early course congestion and placed 58th.

Great job by all sailiors and a big thank you to the parents and volunteers that helped move all of the trailers and support vessels to make the regatta possible!
