ABOUT THE MBYC JUNIOR SAILING PROGRAM

The Mission Bay Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program was formally founded in 1962 with a  mission to encourage young people to have a lifelong involvement in sailing and the sailing community by promoting seamanship, sportsmanship and small boat sailing skills - from fundamentals through competitive racing opportunities. 

 

The MBYC Junior Sailing Program seeks to: 

• Introducing young people to the sport of sailing and encouraging their progress 

• Fostering a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship among our sailors 

• Providing quality coaching to our novice and advanced sailors alike 

• Guiding our racers to the highest level of excellence in competition at the national and international levels 

• Inspiring each sailor to represent the Mission Bay Yacht Club with honor and dignity 

 

The MBYC Junior Sailing Program currently supports:

• 30+ active Race Team members 

• 50+ after-school sailors

• 200+ summer sailors

• 7 local High School Sailing Teams

• 50+ Club Boats: Sabots, O’Pen Skiffs, Lasers, CFJs, C420s, 29ers

• Major regattas at MBYC in 2024/2025: CFJ Nationals, High School Girls Invitational, High School Team Race Pacific Coast Championships, ISSA Baker Team Race Nationals
