Junior Program and Waterfront Director
Chris comes from a family with deep roots in sailing and has been sailing himself since he was 5 years old. Chris grew up racing Sabots, Lasers, CFJs, Snipes and Santana 20s. He pours his heart into the MBYC Junior Program and it shows in the positive vibes that are continually flowing around the boatyard. Chris competes these days in Snipes and occasionally Lasers.
Top Results/Achievements: 1st A Division High School PCC’s, 2nd twice at the Snipe Junior Nationals, 6th Santana 20 Nationals 2006 & 2007, 2019 MBYC Club Champion.
Jimmer started sailing at age 13 and quickly took to the sport. Already on the Surf Team, he joined the Coronado HS Sailing Team and made such an impact that there is a trophy named after him: "The Jimmer Best Crew" Award. His motto going into every regatta is "Have fun and learn something!". When not coaching he can be found working small miracles in boat repairs and rigging.
Top Results/Achievements: 5th Laser Radial Youth Championships, 2nd at back-to-back High School Nationals, 1st Laser Radial Junior Olympics.
Junior Communications Director & Coach
Áine started sailing at 13 and has immersed herself in the sport ever since as a competitor, mentor and coach. As a junior she sailed in many major events locally and nationally including Sabot Nationals, US Youth Champs, CISA, CORK, Leiter Cup, Sears Cup, High School Nationals and was named to the SCYYRA Race Team.
Top Results/Achievements: 1st Collegiate Women's Singlehanded PCC's, 1st Laser II MidWinters West, Snipe PCCs Champion, Runner-up Snipe Pan Am Trials, Women's Snipe National Champion, 5th at the Women's Snipe World Championship, 2016 SDAYC Yachtswoman of the Year.
Race Team Coach
Doug sailed at the US Naval Academy and campaigned for the Olympics in board sailing back in the day. Doug has sailed too many National and World Championships to count and is recognized worldwide for his sailing and coaching skills.
Top Results/Achievements: Two time Snipe National Champion, Snipe North Americans Champion, Laser Masters North Americans Champion, 5-time MBYC Club Champion, Silver Medalist at the Pan Am Games.
D'amy sailed Sabots, Lasers and C420s out of MBYC as a kid. She graduated from Duke University this past Spring with a double major in Biology and Environmental Science with concentrations in Marine Ecology. A true "steward" of the sea, we are so lucky to have D'amy working with our kids before she heads off to graduate school next Fall. She sailed at CISA, Leiter Cup, Orange Bowl, Youth Champs, Miami OCR and was named to the SCYYRA Race Team.
Megan is originally from Nova Scotia, but grew up in San Diego and sailed at MBYC as a junior. She was on the winning High School Team Race National Championship team with Point Loma High School, won silver and bronze medals at the US Junior Women's Doublehanded Champs and was named to the SCYYRA Race Team. She is a 4th year at Dalhousie University in Canada, presently taking a gap year. She sailed with Jr Director Chris to win the 2019 MBYC Club Champs.
Diego is a studying remotely as a freshman at Georgetown University after being a star skipper at Point Loma High School where he helped the team win the 2019 High School National Championships. Diego is an accomplished Sabot, Laser, C420, CFJ and Snipe sailor and was named to the Youth Olympic Training Team.
Brian graduated from Mission Bay High School and is currently taking classes at Community College. He was part of the initial effort to bring the Sailing Team back to MBHS and sailed all 4 years with the team. Brian generally travels by skateboard and is most happy in the ocean surfing.
Ximena is a Senior at Point Loma High School and has been coaching at MBYC for 2 years. Before focusing her efforts on sailing in High School, she was an elite gymnast and has seamlessly transferred many of those skills and athleticism into a successful sailing career that will certainly carry on into college next year.
Marleigh is a Senior at Mission Bay High School who rebuilt the Sailing Team at the school her freshman year. She has sailed most of her life and after a successful Sabot career, now enjoys sailing bigger boats and offshore racing. Marleigh is particularly interested in Engineering and hopes to focus on Marine Engineering in particular once she heads off to college.
Sean is a senior at La Jolla High School. An all around athlete and ocean lover, he enjoys sailing, surfing and beach volleyball where he's competed at the National level. Sean grew up sailing sabots with the MBYC Race Team and has also competed in Lasers, C420s and 29ers in his teenage years.
Cole is a Junior at Point Loma High School and has been sailing pretty much his entire life starting with Snipes and Sabots early on, now racing Lasers and C420s as well as CFJs in High School. He sailed the Snipe North American Championships and Thistle Nationals. Cole's fun energy really contributes to the positive vibes at MBYC.
Sean is a Junior at Cathedral Catholic High School and a member of their Sailing Team. Before he was a competitive sailor, his focus was on Baseball and as a pitcher he competed at the National level until a shoulder injury sent him down a different path. Sean now races Lasers and CFJs.
Carolina is a Junior at Cathedral Catholic High School and found her passion for sailing when she discovered the sport through the CCHS Sailing Team. She has taken her training seriously from day one and now races Lasers as well as CFJs and has inspired her younger siblings to take up sailing too!
Garrett is a sophomore at Francis Parker and a member of their Sailing Team. With grandparents who sailed too, Garrett can't remember a time when he wasn't around MBYC. He spent many summers participating in the Junior Program and has been part of the Race Team for years, now graduating from Sabots to Lasers and doublehanded boats. Garrett also plays volleyball and enjoys the outdoors including epic hiking trips with his family.
Shea is a sophomore at Francis Parker and a member of their Sailing Team. When he is not on the water, Shea likes gardening, reading and stargazing. He loves sharing his joy of sailing with the kids he coaches. After a few years racing Sabots, Shea now races CFJs, Lasers and Snipes.
