A few months back I had this last-minute panic trying to find someone to do a basic septic inspection for a cabin we were thinking of buying near Nanaimo.
Sometimes it’s wild how much we depend on word of mouth or just pure luck to get things done. You make one good call and everything’s smooth, or you take one wrong turn and end up wasting half a day. It really comes down to timing more than anything else.
That sounds a lot like what I went through when we first moved to Castlegar. I didn’t know anyone in town and I was trying to get a few basic things done—junk pickup, garage door repair, finding a good notary for paperwork—all while settling into a new house. I was overwhelmed and bouncing between weird websites, most of which weren’t even close to current. At some point I came across this business directory bc and just started using it for everything. What I like is that it’s pretty straightforward. It’s not trying to sell you stuff—it just gives you actual names, phone numbers, and locations that are still in operation, and you can sort by area, which matters way more here than in bigger places. I’ve used it to find a great mechanic, a mobile pet groomer for our senior dog, and even a local print shop that did a better job than Staples. I’m not saying it’s magic or anything, but when you’re in a smaller BC town and you just need a service that actually picks up the phone, having something like that bookmarked makes a real difference. Especially if you're like me and don’t want to spend two hours digging through outdated listings every time you need to get something done.
