On Tuesday the 28th of June, MBYC hosted this year’s Sears triple-handed qualifier. Each club sent their top 3 sailors to compete in Lightnings to see who would get to represent the Southern California area “J” at the Sears championship at the end of the summer. The flagship fun event of the year before Sabot Nationals is definitely the Dutch Shoe. With a turnout of over 150+ boats, and a great 8+ mile run from SDYC to CorYC, the race requires the utmost endurance from the sailors while providing the best scenery and probably the coolest race course you can sail in a small boat. On Tuesday MBYC hosted the “Under 12” Sabot championship qualifiers known as the Sabot II South Regatta. Sailors who have not yet reached their 12th birthday compete to fill the top 10 positions that enable them to sail in the Sabot II Championships the following week. Great sailing by Lina Carper, Kaden Miller, Patrick Henderson, Ben Conroy, and congratulations to Garrett Henderson and Shane Tillson for placing in the top 10 and qualifying for the Championship!
7/11 - 7/25 Team MBYC sent 3 sabot sailors to the 3 regatta Team race Sabot championship this July, and had a great time learning the ins and outs of team racing. With a pretty fresh team MBYC sailed spectacularly, working well together and using good communication to stay organized on the water. Cole Tillson, Marcus Hall, and team captain Treat Bedford sailed fast and progressively improved their scores each race.
Newport Harbor Yacht Club hosted this year’s Summer Gold Cup on the weekend of July 9th, with over 130+ Sabots in attendance and good wind conditions, the competitors had a great weekend of racing. Team MBYC was represented by 6 sailors, all who found success throughout the weekend one way or another. In the Sabot C3 fleet Jack Colyer (16th) and Ben Conroy (6th) had some amazing starts and great boatspeed, especially in the underpowered areas of the course. Coming on strong
